FontLife Publications is our subsidiary publishing services company. As the author of 14 published books, Victor Font leads a team that has a true passion for helping new authors get their work into print.
When the recession claimed Victor's full time job as an IT Director at CARQUEST Technologies, LLC at the end of 2009, He decided to take much of 2010 off as a Sabbatical year to write his first book, The Ultimate Guide to the SDLC. With the encouragement of his former CIO, he sent McGraw-Hill a book proposal. The managing editor of the technical book division responded in two business days expressing interest in pursuing the publication of his book. At this point he hadn't even written a word, but the editor encouraged him to start the writing process and send her the chapters as they were completed.
After sending her several chapters, communications fell strangely silent. The McGraw-Hill technical book division was also undergoing recessionary changes. They lost several senior editors and placed a moratorium on publishing all new books for the balance of 2010. The Ultimate Guide to the SDLC fell into a black hole. The managing editor encouraged Victor to seek another publisher because the work was worthy. After sending out many proposals and receiving nothing but rejection letters, Victor decided to look into self-publishing.
Self-publishing turned out to be very expensive. At the time, a single ISBN number cost $125.00. Printers were asking over $20 a copy to print the book and they all asked for minimum quantities. It is estimated that it would cost over $3,000 for him to self-publish his book. He decided to simply release the book as a .pdf file and market it on a dedicated website and through social media. The book started selling and has continued to sell since.
In early 2012, Victor attended a free social media marketing class. The owner of the school was also a book publisher and has over 140 books to his credit. He encouraged Victor to continue writing and eventually taught him as much as he could about the publishing business. Winning With WordPress Basics quickly followed and The Ultimate Guide to the SDLC went into print.
