Getting Started with Blogging

July 27, 2014 By Victor M. Font Jr.

Runner at Starting Line, Image Courtesy of pixabay.comEveryone is an expert at something. Maybe you've never thought of yourself in these terms, but you are an expert nevertheless. You are a unique person with skills, knowledge, talent and ability that no one else possesses. What do you think about sharing your expertise with others? As you share your expertise, you will build an audience that trusts you, gain a following and maximize your presence on the World Wide Web. But why would you want to do this?

"Everyone is an expert at something.
…What do you think about sharing your expertise with others?"

Blogging can be BIG business these days, with some bloggers reporting six-figure or even million-dollar incomes. Why would you not want to be part of this opportunity? Every single person reading this post has the potential to accomplish what others are already doing. Will everyone be successful? No. Does everyone have an equal opportunity? Yes. All it takes is your passion and a desire to get started with blogging.

In this series of articles, we'll be covering the following topics:

  • Blogging 101
  • What to Write About
  • What to Avoid
  • Blogger Code of Conduct
  • Free Hosting Solutions
  • Self-hosted Solutions
  • Desktop Blogging Tools
  • Marketing Your Blog
  • Making Money with Your Blog

This series of articles is based on my popular seminar, Getting Started with Blogging. I've been conducting this seminar every few months for various organizations around the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill triangle area for the past few years. My latest public appearance was for the WordPress in Raleigh Meetup group. Here are some testimonials from that meetup:

I have to say I was worried and intimidated before I came but everyone was really welcoming and the session was great. I will no longer be intimidated by this groups meetups! Thank you!—Jen

Excellent overview of WordPress.—Drew

Thanks Victor! I enjoyed your presentation!—Kevin

Victor did an amazing job going over some base level WP stuff. Thanks for sharing today.—Jake

If you're interested in learning the basics about blogging to begin to maximize your presence on the Word Wide Web, then keep your eyes open for future articles in this series. I'm planning to release at least one per week until we're done.
